Dora was raised by her mother, Isabelle (Harden) Masters, and stepfather, William Masters, who married Isabelle 7 September 1901 in Waynesburg, Pa. when Dora was 6 years old. Dora took his last name and listed him as her father in most records throughout her life. However, her immediate family reports that her biological father was Jefferson "Jesse" Rice.
