RG134-04-06Description
Camp Sevier, established near Greenville, South Carolina in 1917, was a major World War I training site for over 100,000 troops. Selected due to local efforts and its favorable location, it hosted the 30th, 81st, and 20th Divisions. The camp lacked modern facilities, and soldiers endured harsh winters and deadly outbreaks of influenza and other diseases. Despite challenges, training was rigorous, supported by vibrant local and national efforts to boost morale. The camp played a vital role in preparing troops for Europe. After the war, it briefly served as a tuberculosis hospital. Today, few physical remnants remain, only markers and memories.Collection
