RG134-05-06Description
Textile Hall’s first sixty years reflect Greenville’s emergence as a major center of the textile industry. Sparked by local leaders in 1914, the Southern Textile Exposition began in 1915, drawing national attention. The first Textile Hall opened in 1917, hosting biennial expositions showcasing textile innovation. Despite interruptions by war and economic challenges, the shows expanded, eventually attracting global exhibitors. In 1923, Textile Hall was reorganized as a public nonprofit. Under dynamic leadership, it grew to a major international venue, with 1960s expansions culminating in the landmark 1964 show. By 1974, Greenville was the recognized world center for textile exhibitions.Collection
