RG134-06-02Description
The Greenville Arts Festival began in 1963 as a grassroots effort to unify and celebrate the city’s artistic community. Spearheaded by Carolyn Frederick and the AAUW, the Festival aimed to boost public appreciation for the arts and coordination among cultural groups. Over the years, the Festival evolved—changing locations from Cleveland Park to Textile Hall and eventually to Heritage Green—each move reflecting growth and logistical needs. Highlights included community parades, educational programs, and support from volunteers and businesses. By 1979, the Festival had significantly shaped Greenville’s cultural landscape, helping launch institutions like the Metropolitan Arts Council and inspiring statewide arts initiatives.Collection
