A History of Paris MountainEntry/Object ID
RG134-07-07Description
Robert C. Tucker’s paper explores the rich natural and human history of Paris Mountain, the most prominent geographic feature in Greenville County. Formed during the Ordovician period, the mountain served as a water source, recreational retreat, and residential area. It was home to notable figures like Waddy Thompson Jr., and the site of early development efforts including the Altamont Hotel. Paris Mountain State Park, created from former water system lands, preserves much of the area’s flora, fauna, and historical remnants. Once viewed as a remote obstacle, the mountain now stands as a valued natural, recreational, and historical asset to Greenville.Collection
