The Donaldson Center Industrial Air Park in Greenville, SC, began as a U.S. Army Air Force base in WWII and evolved into a vital industrial hub. Initially gifted by the city and county, the base trained B-25 crews and later became the Military Air Transport Service (MATS) headquarters. After its closure in 1963, local leaders successfully reclaimed the land, transforming it into a thriving industrial park. Managed by a dedicated commission, Donaldson now hosts over 90 businesses, including Lockheed and 3M. Its preserved airfield supports air cargo, executive aircraft, and aviation services, playing a unique and essential role in regional development.Collection
