“Every House Has Its Secrets” by Anne K. McCuen is a first-person narrative told from the perspective of the historic house at 807 East Washington Street in Greenville, now the Poinsett Club. Built in 1904 by textile magnate Lewis Parker, the Southern Colonial Revival mansion witnessed Greenville’s transformation through fires, economic shifts, and changing ownership. Originally a grand family home, it later became a private men's club. The house recounts social events, renovations, the Great Depression, and cultural milestones like women and minorities joining the club. Through its story, the house mirrors a century of Greenville’s evolving social and architectural landscape.Collection
