The Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) was one of three transformative developments in South Carolina's Upstate during the late 1950s and early 1960s, alongside the construction of I-85 and the creation of technical education centers. Driven by leaders like Roger Milliken and Charlie Daniel, GSP was envisioned as a modern regional airport to support the area’s economic growth. Completed in 1962, it helped attract major businesses, including BMW and Michelin. Over the decades, GSP expanded significantly, including becoming an inland customs port. Its beauty, functionality, and strategic location have made it a cornerstone of the Upstate's economic infrastructure.Collection
