A Short History of the Greenville Country ClubEntry/Object ID
RG134-13-04Description
The Greenville Country Club traces its origins to 1895, when local golfers built a nine-hole course on Piney Mountain. In 1905, the group moved to the former Sans Souci estate, creating a vibrant club that became a social hub. In 1923, a new 18-hole course and clubhouse were opened on Byrd Boulevard. Renamed Greenville Country Club in 1927, it weathered hard times during the Depression thanks to J.E. Sirrine’s support. Major expansions followed, including the acclaimed Chanticleer course in the 1970s and Riverside redesign in 2007. Today, the club is a premier family-oriented facility with a rich sporting and social legacy.Collection
