Description

The Southern Bleachery and Print Works played a pivotal role in the industrial and community development of Taylors, South Carolina. Originally home to the Chick Springs resort, the area evolved into a textile hub when Bennette Geer, with backing from James B. Duke, launched the bleachery in 1924 to meet the demand for print cloth. Designed by Joseph Sirrine and built by Gallivan Construction, it grew rapidly and included a thriving mill village. After operations ceased in 1965, the site lay mostly dormant until redevelopment began in 2006. Today, Taylors Mill is a vibrant center for artists, entrepreneurs, and local businesses.
