RG134-03-04Description
Founded in 1786, Fairview Presbyterian Church is the oldest Presbyterian congregation in Greenville County, South Carolina. Established by five Scotch-Irish families seeking religious freedom, the church quickly became a spiritual and communal center. Four buildings have served the congregation, including a brick church completed in 1858 with funds from Revolutionary War veteran David Morton. Fairview is revered as the “Mother of Presbyterianism” in the region, spawning multiple churches and sustaining a rich tradition of worship, education, and community service. Its cemetery honors Revolutionary and Civil War veterans, while long-standing customs preserve its Scottish Presbyterian heritage.Collection
