The old A. J. Bigelow home on the farm 6 1/2 miles N. E. of Grinnell in Chester Township. Built in 1883. Family members pictured in front of the home are Susie (with unnamed child on her lap), Elber, Mother (Emma Marr Bigelow), June (?), unnamed child, Lute, and Isabel. Alonzo J. Bigelow (1831-1887) married Emma Marr and they began farming in Chester Township, Poweshiek County, Iowa in 1862. Their son Elber (1873-1897) was a photographer in Brooklyn, Iowa and may have taken this photograph.
Elber and Ida White Bigelow (1870-1964) were married at the Poweshiek County Fair on September 7 1892. A picture of this marriage is in our collection. Elber died in 1897 at the age of 24 and Ida never remarried. They had no children. Lives of the others shown in the photograph have not been researched.
