Metal head appears to be cast, excessive metal on poll side possible from sprue gate, blade & eye one continuous piece no sign of forging; eye is oval shape & has slight inward taper from top to bottom; blade flairs outward so is wider than eye; straight wood handle; haft end of handle thicker and heavier than shaft to accomodate eye.
Somewhat unusual piece; handle probably replacement, straight helves common pre-19th century but adz handles developed a curve in 1800's; also commonly associate square or rectangular eye w/an adz.Use
