Description

A brass had band has been added at the join. A copper military button with a raised eagle had been attached at center of hat band. A copper rivet has been added on each end of the hat band. Two decorative-only squares of brass (one is missing) were added to the hat band. The bill is marked 1916. On the left of the button is "Verdun" on the right of the button is "onne passe pas" 04/30/19 - Ashtrays made of brass shell caps. A common practice for centuries, trench art became much more popular during WWI. Soldiers and civilians would often take souvenirs, such as artillery shell caps, from the battle fields and repurpose them into a variety of objects.
