Description

A woven basket of split willow with the ribs being made of round piedes. The basket is in two parts: a top and the main portion. The top has 24 horizontal rows and 45 ribs; the very tip of the lid has a thin board 8 3/4" long x 1 3/8" wide which is wrapped in split wood; lid also has a latch catch made of wrapped split wood. Main part of basket has 64 horizontal rows and 55 ribs; this part also has handles made of woven round wood. Old collection number 209 and found a typed note in it reading: "This basket is at least 126 years old. Mary Baker came from Germany when 18 years old brought clothes in ths basket. She later was Mrs. Geo. Kepple. Lived on a section of land at Rays Crossing...Mrs. Kepple passed away at 93 years in 1905"
