Description

A brown, woven-work (A) traveling basket; has round ribs and split sides; the sides are woven over and under the ribs; widest at bottom, tapers to top; 1" from top is round stick laced to basket; has 2 handles made of braided wood, each end is wrapped with lacing and attached to basket by means of metal rings; (B) lid which detaches is made in the same manner of round ribs and split sides woven under and over ribs. Basket was originally owned by Joshua H. Enos, Mayor of Shelbyville in 1883 (see page 482 of Brant & Fuller). (A woman named May Wise somehow acquired the basket and gave it to donor.)
