Description

Recitation style school bench made of 2 cast iron pieces shaped like a lower case "h", these made up the legs with each foot having holes in it so the bench can be secured; back rest and seat part of the bench are each made from 6 boards; the seat folds up. Left cast iron leg section has oval with "J.L. Ritter" inside also front leg has an "L" and back leg has a "2"; right cast iron leg section has an oval with "PAT'D/MAR 4, 1977"inside; also back leg has an "R" and front leg has a "2". Donor believes it was used in the old Hanover school where her mother attended and may have been bought by her mother when the school closed; Donated in memory of her mother, Mrs. Mary Layden and her grandmother Mrs. William B. Griffin.
