Homemade device, consists of a central core of a wood pole that tapers to a point ; other end of pole has half-round arm 15 1/4" x 2", there is a wood handle at far end of arm; approx. 10" below the half - round arm is a cross piece; cross piece is notched on one end and has a metal hook on other, secured to cross piece are 2 sets of metal uprights that have a wood roller between each set; heavy gauge wire device inserted in side surface of cross piece and this holds a spool of twine ther is a length of rope coiled between cross piece and half round arm.
Device used to tightly tie together corn shocks; after shocks made pointed pole part inserted, rope on machine put around shock and pulled tight then twine on spool used to tie shock and repeated process at next shock; original invention by Warren William Johnson. Donor believes made about 1910Use
