136 pages of notes handwritten by Marian McFadden during the writing process of her book, "Biography of a Town." The notes are are all numbered in the upper right-hand corner and are segmented into three sections: Pages 1-106; Page 59[Illegible]; Pages 623-649. Pages 1-106 are written on the back of typed "Biography of a Town" manuscript pages. The notes do not appear to necessarily correspond to the written prose. Pages 59[Illegible] and Pages 623-649 are written on the backs of ephemera kept by McFadden, including business letters and correspondence, political campaign flyers, a manuscript for a play, and papers relating to students and schools. Some note numbers repeat (3, 4, 624, 625).Context
Marian McFadden was a Shelbyville native. She was a respected author and librarian, serving as director of the Indianapolis Public Library from 1944 to 1955. Her book "Biography of a Town: Shelbyville, Indiana, 1822-1962" was published in 1968.Acquisition
