Black and white photographic print of group of people standing by what appears to be a river bed; large pool of water near center of image and smaller pools in foreground; background dominated by trees in summer foliage except one section that is a hill and little vegetation growing there; one solitary figure to left side of print; 32 figures across the background; 9 figures in foreground to the right side of print; mount board was originally white cardboard or chipbaord; back of mount board is printed: "SCHAUB & COLLINS/PHOTOGRAPHERS/ HOPE, IND." History: The blow out was a natural gas explosion (see Chadwick, pages 305-307) on August 11, 1890. This photo was probably taken on the 12th or 13th. Marks: written in ink across back of mount is "Pictures taken of the 'blow out' which occurred at the/junction of Conn's Creek and Flat Rock River." in pencil is "August 11, 1890".
