Catre de visite of John Burns; full frontal view, square to camera; older man wearing top hat with hair curling out from under brim; coat is knee length, unbuttoned and has a darker dollar; vest appears to have buttons all way to neck, but only half are secure; has dark stock at neck; right arm straight at side; left arm resting on studio prop; there is a muzzle loading long arm with butt on floor and barrel in crook of left arm; attached to muzzle of gun is a bayonet; to left of subjest is vertical drape. Back is printed "e. & H. T. Anthony, New York from Photographic Negative in Brady's National Portrait Gallery"
