Description

Cap Pouch made of leather, single flap with single button and buttonhole. Civil War era. Carried by William Henry Camper. Camper was born in Shelby County on April 16, 1840 and enlisted in the Union Army on November 15, 1861. He died on February 27, 1921. 02/19/19 - This piece was carried by William Henry Camper in the Civil War. The leather case has two loops on the back that would have allowed it to be carried on a belt. The bag contained firing caps which were necessary to operate most Civil War era firearms. Caps were used to ignite the gunpowder, which then propelled the bullet.
