Certificate of StockScope and Content
Details: Piece of white paper; printed across the top is "CERTIFICATE OF STOCK/ Knightstown and Shelbyville Rail Road Company "; it is issue No. 70 for shares valued at $50.00 each to Joseph Henley; document is dated Oct. 24 1850 and signed by H. B. Hill, president and William H. H. Glass, secretary; lower left corner has been embossed with a seal but cannot make out all details; ornate borders around left border also has words "SHARES FIFTY DOLLARS EACH" and right border has words "CHARTERED IN THE YEAR 1846"
Special Function, History: Note found with certificate stated that both Henley and Hill were residents of Carthage at time stock was issued and that Henley was the great-great grandfather and Hill was the great grandfather of Paul H. Wolf of Morristown
Conditions and Alterations: There is a 2 !/2" vertical tear from the top and a previous repair attempt was made with adhesive tape which has left a yellow stain; can see evidence of an old horizontal and vertical crease from folding, but lines are quite faint so appears document has remained open for long time; back is inscribed in ink in "Joseph Henley"
