Special Functions, History: Donor supplied note that read "The former Pager Milk Company, that was on Miller Street in Shelbyville, pioneered baking mixes by inventing a powdered shortening that would not turn rancid after a period of time on the shelf. Their laboratory technician Norma (Mrs. Frank) Coers developed these mixes and they were marketed for a time. This ws before the well known companies like Pillsbury, Betty Crocker, ect. became known for such products. A change in management at thet plant discontinued the packaging of these mixes, so while they never became nationally known, they were the first, and the enclosed folder shows that they did indeed exist."
