Steel bar, trough shaped w/outside edges higher than center; one end rounded and other end is upturned and ends in a point; 3 rivets attach bar to leather section which is made in 3 pieces; first piece is a strip that curves up like the steel bar, 2nd section is an adjustable strap and 3rd section is wide piece that folds over. Used when corn was harvested by hand; fingers inserted thru strap and metal part rested on inside of hand; point used to rip open corn husks, ear removed and thrown on wagon leaving husk attached to still standing stalk; device worn to protect hands against sharp edges of dry corn husks, Wilkins used on his brother's farm in Moral Township.
