flask shaped device for holding gunpowder; main body is made of 2 pieces of copper ornately decorated with embossing; bottom has a flattened shape whereas the top is round and tubular; bottom edge is curved; top is made of brass and consists of a ring riveted to main body, a spirng powered thumb latch and a pouring spout which is notched on side in graduated figures to measure grains of black powder. there are 4 rings attached to the main body (2 to a side). To use powder flask a person set the notch on the pouring spout for the amount of black wanted; then a finger was placed over the opening and the thumb pushed the lever; powder flask was turned upside down to fill the pouring spout, thumb was released and flask turned upright; the spout now had the correct amount of powder and it was poured down the barrell of the gunCollection
