A gavel made of walnut; handle s approximately 8" long and thicker at butt than at head; the head has two flat striking faces one on each side and indentical turnings between faces; behind face there is a groove witha flairing inner edge thaen an abrupt bead followed by barrell shaped main body and pattern reverses to opposit face. Handle is smooth turned.
Had old collection number 59 and records for it read: "Gavel made of a piece of a walnut log fron first log cabin, (the Williams home), by a man living on the farm William Fox, presented during the Centennial. Aug., 1922. Preserved by Mrs. C. V. CrockettCollection
