Name/Title

Green Opaque Salt Shaker

Description

Salt shaker, round; opaque green; pinecone pattern; screw tin lid; 4 section mold marks.

Use

by the donor's parents, John Charles (1864-1961) and Mary Crafton Diewert (1863-1929), in 1893.

Context

According to the donor, the parents never kept salt on the shaker because living on the farm they bought barrel salt for animal and table use; barrel salt was coarse and couldn't be grated fine enough for the holes in the lid.
