Unusual piece; appears to be photograph of a charcoal drawing secured to a mount. Subject is upper torso, older male, square to camera; light-colored hair, parted on right and loosely combed; long, light chin whiskers or goatee; wearing stock for a tie, no details visible in other clothes; dark blue or black watercolor used to color coat and vest; however this work done hastily as brush strokes extended onto mount. Used by Grover Family. Donation, 04/16/1988.
Pencil inscription on bottom front of mount: "Dr. Grand father Grover." (Donor said he was grandfather to Louis H. Grover.) On back of mount: "born in Xenia, Ohio/his father was judge of/Circuit Court for 20 yrs./Dr. Abraham Grover graduated/from Transylvania College/Levington, Ky. practiced for many years/in and around Cross Plains, Ripley/County. Late in life they moved to Milford. His wife Zeruah (sic) passed/away first. Both are buried there." Dr. Abraham Grover, born April 9, 1803 at Xenia, Ohio. Died Dec. 24, 1879. Graduate of Transylvania College, Ky. Practiced medicine in Ripley and Decatur Counties. Married Zeruah or Zenra Durham. 1812-1868.Collection
