Device for separationg fibers of flax plants. Homemade devicee from .75" pine bboard with a thin metal band around the middle through which has been driven 77 square nails. The stalks of flax were whipped down on the nails and then pulled towards the body. As the fibers separated they collected on the opposite sides and were called "tow" and this was later spun into thread.Collection
