Description

George Jordan was an early Shelby County collector and amatuer archaeologist. Very rare adena adze. Very dark slate colored. It is smooth. The top side rounding from a flat bottom. Tapers from 1 1/2" at one end to 1" at the other. The under side is flat but has a slightly tapering concave shape sloping upward from 7/8" to 1/8" in depth and from 1" to 1/2" in width. In 2000, Teresa Putty, Paleontologist, dated this artifact as Archaic Period, 8000 BC-6000 BC. This is called a 'gouge' and is made of a nice, highly polished hardstone. LMC 1-/29/2019 01/20/2018 Identified by Luke Cord as Highly Polished Hardstone Gouge (Archaic Period 7000-800 BP)
