George Jordan was an early Shelby County collector and amatuer archaeologist. Glacial Kame Birdstone. Slate colored and ringed. Smooth and polished, one end and bottom flat; top side is flat on the sides and rounds up to gentle curve. Top extends into a neck, head shape. The piece has the appearance of a bird with eye, nose, mouth holes. Two drilled holes running inward from the endes to the bottom. Small nick cut into the slate at the back smooth end of piece along the bottom side edge. In 2000, Teresa Putty, Paleontologist, dated this artifact as Woodland Period, 1000 BC-800 AD.
