Description

George Jordan was an early Shelby County collector and amatuer archaeologist. Archaic tube bannerstone. slate gray in color; has opening drilled through middle lengthwise, ends are flat. One side curves into the middle. Lines 1/8" apart run around stone. This is natural dark banding of stone. There is depression roughly oval in shape on one surface. Unsure if natural area that did not polish out or later damage, patina appears consistant. In 2000, Teresa Putty, Paleontologist, dated this artifact as Archaic Period, 8000-6000 BC.
