Electric iron; has black plastic handle; front of handle has a sloping 'shelf' where the thumb of a right handed person would rest while gripping handle, from this veiwpoint the cord comes into the handle on the right side and directly opposite the cord on the left side is a light to indicate power on; beneath the handle and on top of metal part of iron is a heat control consisting of a metal plate screwed to iron and a black plastic pointer knob, metal plate is marked, "OFF"; RAYON/ LO; SILK; WOOL/ MED; COTTON/ HI"; metal has been chromed; iron came in its original box that had a shipping label dated 3-25-49 and sent to "Bower & Son/ Shelbyville, Ind"
Just behind sole of iron is stamped "GENERAL ELECTRIC CO/ BRIDGEPORT, CONN. ONTARIO, CALIF/ MADE IN USA" also stamped is "CAT NO 149F113" and series of patent numbers
Used for pressing clothes; by applying heat could straighten out wrinkles caused by drying after laundry
