Tintype image of a man on thin piece of sheet iron, unsure of medium used to paint the image. Male has thin brown hair that is cut short, appears bald on top except some hair combed forward and arranged in a curl, has a walrus-type mustache that covers upper and most of lower lip, body is square to viewer but head turned slightly to subject's left, wearing dark black coat, some white lines in collar, tie is gray and black stripe, sporting a gold and white stick pin in tie, could be a cameo but can't make out details. Marks: piece of backing paper was printed "the/Pennellograph/secured by copyright, 1875/painted only by/L. H. Newell,/at his art studio, 3952 Market Street,/Philadelphia, Pa."
According to donor this image and 87.18.4 were in a double frame found among her grandfather's things, no one was able to identify them, could be members of either the King family or the Means family. Frame was given to a family member. Donation, 03/12/1987.Collection
