Description

Aluminum colored device; oval shape; hinge for folding handle held in place with 3 rivets, other end of handle ends in hook shape to secure 2 pieces of mess kit together, also hole drilled in handle at the end; when open handle part can serve as a cooking pan; other piece is dividied into 2 compartments and used commonly as plate; also has large spoon & knife on inside. Handle stamped "U.S./T.A.C.U. Co./ 1942 Used by John R. McCrea 1919-1981 Pieces subnumbered 1988.024.013 A Pan B Plate C Spoon D Knife 05/02/19 - Standard issue mess kit and cutlery. A soldier could take apart the pieces and use one side as a frying pan and one side a plate. These pieces were issued to John McCrea who enlisted on August 12, 1943 and served until April 11, 1946.
