D: Letter. Found in 2006 in the pocket of army tunic #1981.019.041A (in the Objects Catalog). Letter reads: Charles Kupferberg joined the U.S. Army/when he was sixteen. He saw service/ "down on the border," was with the "New/York Troopers" taught awhile at West Point,/fought in France, was in Tokio (sic)saw service in the Phillipines, and at the close/of War I (sic) was a 2nd Lieut./Immediately after Pear (sic) Harbor
he/volunteered offering his service to his/ personal friend Sec. Knox, was accepted/and was in several officer's training/camps in Fla. and Ga./Was retired from active duty as a/1st.
Lieut., and is subject to call./This suit is the kind the army/wore during all seasons./Presented by his wife Mrs. Esther/Kemper Kupferberg/July 13, 1944.Collection
