Case is brown composition; hinges by means of a paper strip; fastens w/hook and eye; inside lined with brown velour like material and is formed to fit shape of lancet. The lancet is made of brass except for blade and spring which appears to be steel; one end is curved and rounded byut other end is open and this is where blade and the tension spring poke through; top of lancet has brass lever to fire the blade; bottom has a sliding panel to give access totiil's interior. Lancet is 2 1/8" long x 3/4" at widest; one side of lancet stamped "WIELAND & SNOWDEN PHILADELPHIA PA".
Had old collection number 198 and records for it read: "Medical instrument used in 1860 by Dr. Stephen J. Lewis. Gift--Alta M. Medaris, Indianapolis Ind."Collection
