Name/Title
Last, ShoeDescription
Unusual design for a shoe last; has 2 forms set at right angle to each other; one form is 6-3/4" toe to heel x 3-1/4" wide, possible for adult; other form is 4-3/4" toe to heel x 2-1/2" wide and looks child size; neither form is shaped for the right or left; designed so that back side of each form is flat and serves as a base when other form is in upright position for work; 2 forms join with an extension that has 2 flat sides and 2 rounded sides, serves as counter weight and additional base area to support whichever form is in the upright work position.
Attributed to pre Civil War period because the forms are not shaped for right or left feet; the concept of a right and left shoe did not come about until about the time of Civil War.
There are no donor forms for this object. Pat West brought it in because another party had given it to her for a fund raising rummage sale to benefit the animal shelter. She did not think anybody would buy it and she did not want to be stuck with it.Collection
