Letter from World War II from Annapolis, MD; sent to Lawrance Thompson, a teacher from Shelbyville Letter Content: "Hello Mr. Thompson- How are you? I'm getting in the groove now + feeling great. I have been playing basketball regulary every afternoon during recreation time. This week has fixed me all up in knots! Exams every morning. All placement + survey tests. Yesterday morning wasw the worst. We marched over (1100 plebes) at 7:30 + marched back at 12:40. We had an aplitude test + a mathematics attainment test. Both were terrific! This morning was more intersting. We had another math survey test and an exam called spatial relations test. This latter consisted of two hours of counting blocks, identifing solidds from angles ect. It sounds rather silly, but it was very intriguing. I've been seeing spots and blocks all day! Monday our academic year starts. I already have my math lesson prepared (That's why I can knock off + write during study hour.) My other subjects are Marine Engineering, French, Electrical Engineering (notorious because of it's rigidity.) and Bull. (English) I'm rather frightened, but I'm going to turn to [Maybe for] I'm worth. Navy opens it's football schedule Saturday against Wm + Mary. I'm exspecting us to win. Say, I hear you pulled a neat one in upsetting Seymour. Congratulations! Rudy says she likes Geomentry. I'm glad, because that's half the battle, I thinks. All math has always held an attraction for me. I've always loved to learn some new methos of solving problems. Well, I'm running shy of news, so I'd better close.
