Marks: Stamped "Pat'd/June 19,1877". Function unknown. A recurved handle-like piece that moves a small wheel with five widely-spaced teeth or sprockets. A small cylinder at the end of the handle piece acts as a brake when it rubs against a thin piece of metal. The movement of the teeth forces two thin metal strips which are crossed to separate and a spring pulls them together again. A metal piece sets perpendicular to the moving aparatus and has a hole in one end.Collection
