Description

child size white china tea cup saucer; has 3" diameter base and 4-1/2" diameter top; saucer decorated with china painting consisting of a gold band along outside rim which is edged at its bottom by a brown line, then a white band 9/16" wide which has a brown line at its top and bottom, decoration on white band is 2 horizontal gold lines w/ends turned to each other and ellipsoidal figure in brown between lines; these alternate with vertical rectangular brown sections; underside rim of saucer somewhat iridescent bottom has green stencil "Haviland/France.

by Charlotte & Marian Jones, as a gift from their aunt.

Context

According to the donors, this tea set given to donors by their aunt, Mrs. Charles Spiegel. Set was hand painted to match by Etta Wingate. Underside is signed with brown ink: Etta Wingate. Etta and her twin sister Eva were maiden ladies living in Shelbyville. Miss Eva taught school and Etta kept house and did china painting.
