Mold, ButterDescription
A: Wood rectangular butter mold works like a puzzle. When all wood pieces are in place, a metal bar closes over all to hold it together. The two end pieces ( marked B & C) come completely out but all others are permanently attached by hinges and pins. The carved imprint is of a single rose with leaves and a twig with grapes. There are two hinges on each long side. Two screws in each corner join. Small nails on top edge, reason unknown. On "front" long edge is a printed label: Ayer's Improved Butter Mold, Frank P. Ayer, next two lines cannot be read. On "back" long side stamped in ink is: Patented June 12, 1888.Collection
