Front of Picture: Top border: North John & Pike Sts. Left side Border: arrow pointing up for north On photo body: 4' solid (gas) sleeve with arrow 6" W.I. gas with arrow Summer 1947. Bottom border: New San. Sewer Extension - N. From John St. Snapshot by Jess. Back of Picture: Both the 6" & 4" wrought iron gas mains here - are deep - possibly 6 ft. The 4 in. is about in center of John St. - and the 6 in. is a little west of center of Pike St. Also there is an 8" W.I. gas main along on N. side of John St. - it is interconnected with the 6 in on Pike St. at NE part of street intersection - see red arrow pointing to 8 & 6 intersection & intersection of gas mains. There is a 6" c.i. water main along on E. side of Pike St as this intersection. The new sanitary sewer trench at the street intersection was about 12 or 13 ft. deep in gravel. - All of these mains were poorly supported in this large deep excavation. Ground settlement here can cause serious leakage some day. Keep an eye on this spot always. Truly yours - Jess E. Meloy
