A nut and Lock, invented by Shelbyville resident Townsend Hand, used for appying and tightening nuts and bolts of railways. It consists of two steel components (A and B) and a felt lined, faux leather case (C).
A: One of two locking washers in the Nut Lock design. An "A" shaped metal washer with a large hole in the center. Stamped on the leg of the object is "PAT. NO 938320."
B: One of two locking washers in the Nut Lock design. A "Q" shaped metal washer with a groved surface on one side. Stamped on the leg of the "Q" is "PAT. NO 938320."
C: A triangular, brown, faux leather pouch, lined in black felt, used to store the two components of the Nut Lock. It closes with a single snap, and the words "New York. December 25th, 1915. Mr. Oscar Hand" are engraved on the inner face.Collection
