Subject is seated, body at angle to camera with right shoulder foremost, head turned to face lens; wearing Kepi; hair long over ears, full beard hangs down on chest; officer's bars on tunic shoulders, tunic open and reveals a vest buttoned to chin; 3 buttons on tunic sleeve; stripe on pant leg; right hand in lap, left arm on covered table. Original print damaged above left shoulder & across chest.

H, 13th Reg, Indiana Volunteers on 06/19/1861 as sergeant; promoted 2nd Lt. 12/07/61; 1st Lt, 04/01/63 and Captain 11/04/64; wounded 1st Battle Lookout Mountain; mustered out 07/02/64; also served in Washinton, D.C. as deputy U.S. Marshall; died 08/1879 and buried Congressional Cemetery; widow received $8.00/month pension. Married 01/17/1856 to Mary E. Shank, 3 children; William G. father, Lewis, pioneered in Marion Co.; Mary's father, Jacob, pioneered in Shelbyville; Wm S.
