Point, Projectile

Name/Title

Point, Projectile

Description

Projectile Point/Fulton stemmed Turkey-tail. This point is similar to the Fulton Turkey-tail points with the exception that this point has a straight stem and well-defined shoulders. This example also has a large portion of the original cortex on the base of the stem. This is characteristic of these points. This point is probably a utilitarian form rather than ceremonial. Color is dark grey, possibly Wyandotte chert. This point, 1500-500 BC, is diagnostic of the Terminal Archaic phase of the Late Archaic Period and of the Early Woodland Period. Reference: "Stone Age Spear and Arrow Points", Noel D. Justice, p.174-178 ******In 2000, Teresa Putty, Paleontologist, dated this artifact as 1000 BC-AD 800, Woodland Period.
