Name/Title

Point, Projectile

Description

Projectile Point. Table Rock Stemmed. This point is characterized by its symetrical blade. The slightly expanding stem and a straight basal edge. This point is not well finished as is characteristic of many of this type and it had a large portion of cortex on one side of the blade. Color is red. These are closely related to Bottleneck Stemmed points and it is the Bottleneck variety that are most common in the midwest. Table Rock points are diagnostic of the "Table Rock" phase of the Middle Archaic Period and of the Late Archaic Period. Reference: "Stone Age Spear and Arrow Points", Noel D. Justice, p.124. ****In 2000, Teresa Putty, Paleontologist, dated this artifact at 1000 BC-AD 800, Woodland Period.
