Point, ProjectileDescription
Projectile Points. Agate Basin. Characteristics are a lanceolate form and concave base. These points are strongly related to clovis points except that Agate Basin points are not fluted.
A: This point has a concave base and is made from a fossiliferous chert giving its grainy looking texture. Color is tan. (In 2000, Teresa Putty, Paleontologist, dated this artifact as Paleozoic Era)
B: The base is slightly concave and the blade sides are nearly parallel.
C: This is a smaller form. It has probably been resharpened down from its original size. Its base is deeply concave. Color is dark grey, possibly Wyandotte chert.
Agate Basin points relate to a bison-hunting tradition and are diagnostic of the
"Lanceolate-Plano" phase of the Late Paleo Indian Period.
These points represent tools of the earliest peoples in the Americas.
