Point, ProjectileDescription
Projectile Points. Graham Cave Side Notched. These points are characterized by their markedly concave bases and small side notches. There are 3 subtypes of this point. These two seem to fit best "Subtype A".
A: Exhibits a deeply concave base, a fairly thick midsection of the blade and the edges of the blade have been resharpened leaving a slightly serrated edge.
Color is reddish-brown.
B: Base in concave but not to the degree of "A". This point has not been resharpened to the extent of "A", thus leaving the blade thicker overall than "A", but may show signs of slight serration on blade edges. Color is grey.
Graham Case Side Notched points are diagnostic of the "Kessel" phase of the Early Archaic Period.
Graham Cave Side Notched points distribution is not commonly thought to extend this far N.E. into Indiana. If indeed these were found in Shelby County,
this expands the known distribution of these points.
